Give the Gift of Life
Through Organ, Tissue and Eye Donation
Make Your Wishes Known...
And Leave a Lasting Legacy.
When you donate your organs, tissue and eyes to
save the life of a stranger, you leave a lasting legacy that will be cherished
by all who are touched by your precious gift. Sadly, too few of us make our
wishes known, either formally through donor registration and consent – or
informally, through conveying our wishes to next of kin.
Patients suffer and die needlessly every day because of the disparity between
those in need and those willing to donate. Some 85% of Americans support organ,
tissue and eye donation, yet fewer than half choose donation when a loved one
dies – often because they do not know the wishes of the deceased.
Talk to your family. Make your wishes known. Ask your loved ones if they wish to
make a donation as their final legacy.
This site is designed to help. Here, you can learn more about becoming a donor
and you can register. Here, we dispel the myths and misconceptions about organ
donation. Here, we offer education and other support so that barriers such as
language, misinformation and culture do not impede donors’ ability to choose the
lifesaving, life-enhancing, indescribably generous gift of organ donation.
The Give Texas Life Website was created
through a grant awarded by the State of Texas to the South Texas Blood & Tissue
Center – for the purpose of educating and offering resources to prospective
organ, tissue and eye donors. The site is maintained and powered by South Texas
Blood & Tissue Center and is a joint venture of South Texas Blood & Tissue
Center and the State of Texas Department of Health Services.
