• Currently 101,379 patients are on the national waiting list.


• Of those, 9,006 are in Texas, including Caucasians, African-Americans and Hispanics. Hispanic patients comprise 40% of the patients in Texas who are awaiting a transplant.

• Although the majority of patients awaiting transplants are Hispanic, very few Hispanic donors are listed on the State Registry.


• Patients waiting for a kidney transplant make up 80% of the patients awaiting organs in Texas and of those, 50% (6,394 patients) are Hispanic.

• Gender: 56.3% are men; 43.8% are women

• End-stage renal disease: Hispanics - 44.2%; Caucasians 32.5%; African-Americans 20.7%

• Kidney transplant list: Hispanics - 49.9%; African-Americans 24.4%; Caucasians 22.8%

• Liver transplant list: Hispanics - 30.6% and Caucasians 62.5%

• Age Groups:
      50 - 64 years of age: 46.9%
      35 - 49 years of age: 28.1%
      Under 34: 11.9%
